Answer» I know dittily about computers. I know I have a Dell with Windows Xp. I know it powers on, but won't start up. I tried to open the computer (after trying to figure this out for 20 mins...) and saw there was a battery. I removed and replaced the battery thinking this would work (it does in my remote..)
When I opened it, I had unplugged all of the cables. After the battery trick, I plugged the power cord back in and the power went on immediately without me PUSHING the button. Before I opened it, the fan would turn on. After I opened the case, the fan doesn't turn on but the machine still does.
What can POSSIBLY be wrong with this?
It is an older computer and I don't WANT to put a lot of money into it. If this is something that cannot be fixed easily, all I am worried about is will I be able to retreive the info I have on here off of here?
Help me please! Sorry for the LACK of knowledge, I will do my best to get answers if you think you can help me!
