Solve : presario overheating issues? |
|
Answer» I got a compaq presario 7470 and its overheeating and can't find the problem. It has a amd k6-2 533mhz socket 7 97 bus 5.5 multiplier 2.1volt. I can overclock it to 550mhz if i jumper it to 100 bus. I got the panel off and everything out of the way. I blowed it out this morning. I've had it for a month now and its been doin it ever since. The fans WORKING. THERES not much I can do in bios and theres nothing there for cpu temp. If I don't turn it on for a couple of days it will run for 3 or 4 hours straight no problems then it will turn off for a few minutes and then COME back on and do that continually unless I turn it off for a while and then it will run for about 30 minutes or so depending on how long I leave it off. I don't know what else to do. I got this to sell and I need the money bad and got someone wanting to buy it. Please Help!! Thanks.
Just curious.. If you're overclocking, why do you need our help?Have you cleaned the CPU and heatsink and APPLIED new thermal paste? Does the fan on the CPU spin steady or slow down speed up stop ETC.... Do you have buldging or leaky capacitors on the motherboard? Why don't you just run it at 533 MHZ the way it was designed? If you increased the CPU speed by 5% who would ever know? Have you read the specs on your computer at the below site? http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=94486&lang=en&docname=c00012507I am running it a 533. I cleaned the heatsink and fan. The fan spins steady. I haven't applied thermal pasted because the heatsink is stuck to the cpu and I can't get it off. There are no bad caps.Overclocking a machine and then wondering why it doesn't work correctly SEEMS to be a no-brainer. I guess not though. I have not overclocked it. I just said I'm running it at 533 what it is supposed to be. I know it can be overclocked cause I got the manual.Quote I haven't applied thermal pasted because the heatsink is stuck to the cpu and I can't get it off. Everest can monitor your temps. Are you sure it is heat and not a bad power supply? Old Compaqs (especially that old) can have failing units. If it is heat, I think the processor would have cooked by now, as these did not have thermal protection built in and did run hot. The old fan also could not be performing as it did when new, regardless of if it spins at all or not. Anyway, check the temps and report back. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html (Glad I'm not buying it! )I tried a new psu and another fan. I think I'm gonna find another mobo to put in the case. Thanks for all the help.Lmao. Who would buy that piece of junk, anyway? This sounds like a very expensive lost case.. |
