Solve : Printer cannot communicate with computer?

Answer»

The topic is the error mesage that I receive when trying to print. This is a DELL pc with XP and a Dell V310-510 Series printer. I can print a TEST page, but nothing else. You do not mention your operating system. Also is this a problem that has only now arisen and it had worked fine before now? If so what if anything has been changed coincident to this problem occurring? Here is a link to a Microsoft site that can assist in fixing windows problems with printers.

Try it and report back as to the results.

I would un-install the printer drivers / software. Dell may have a driver update http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection?fkey=Drivers_PS Just put in your service tag and then pick your OS.

Most usb printers you have to install the software first then when asked you plug in the printer and it will finish.

It sounds like 1 of 2 things has happened #1 the usb cable is bad or #2 the drivers maybe partially corrupt.

Most likely it is a bad driver, Mike Quote from: truenorth on September 06, 2012, 05:40:28 PM

Isn't XP the OS?I tried to THANK both of you, but got some kind of bad KARMA error report. Anyway, I thought that the THING to do was to un-install and re-install the printer. Is that different than un-installing the driver?Good evening trusky and welcome back

That is what I was talking about. Sorry I was not trying to confuse you with using different terminology.
