Solve : Printer causes XP to lock up? |
|
Answer» I have tried both an HP deskjet 3320 as well as a Canon Pixma ip1500. I have updated drivers and nothing works. Both connect using USB. I have also uninstalled the drivers and let XP automatically install. As soon as I hit print, the computer will act like it is sending the info to the PRINTER, and then lock up completely. Mouse will not move, caps lock light will not change when I hit the button. Holding the power button does not shut down computer. Have to hit the switch on the power supply. Tried switching to different usb port on the computer and same problem occurring. Any suggestions?Keeping the power button pressed for approximately 10 seconds should shut the computer down. (I work for McAfee as a Virus Removal Tech, and I am sure it is not related). I'd still go for AVG Free in case McAfee missed anything. What if you use a regular printer cable? Will the problem still occur? What other devices are connected to the USB port? Have you connected the USB cable after installing the drivers? Just tried an old parallel printer, and it works fine. I have a usb mouse and cable internet connected to usb as well. Quote Just tried an old parallel printer, and it works fine. I have a usb mouse and cable internet connected to usb as well. Try disconnecting all other USB devices before installing the drivers and printer. Does this regard USB 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0? |
