Solve : Printer installation and DOS...?

Answer»

Okay, my grandfather gave me a printer that is Lexmark 1100 without the INSTALL disk. I was given a link to Lexmark's website to install the drivers, but when I unzipped the folder it tried to prompt me to DOS to install the drivers and I GET this message:

C:\Windows\system32\autoexec.nt The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose "Close" to terminate the application.

This also happens if I try to play any games in DOS yet if I run cmd.exe I can browse around DOS all I want, I just can't RUN anything...

I'm using Windows XP on a Dell computer... I tried reinstalling windows but it told me that the version was more recent than the one on the disk. I got my computer in 2003...

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I REALLY NEED A PRINTER, and this one was free... ^_^;

~ Misha <3Usually when you go to the manufacturers site and get drivers, they ask you for the operating system used. Did you tell it XP?

Alan <>< Yes I did, actually it was my mother that took the initiative to get the link and e-mail it to me.

http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?category=Drivers&ccs=37:1:0:435:0:0&os_group=WinXP&searchLang=en

She wrote that she was instructed by tech support to download and install this WITHOUT the printer attached to my computer, which I tried, I got as far as unzipping the file, I'm pretty sure it's not actually 'installed'

~ Misha <3After the file is unzipped there should be a file called setup...just double clik it and the install should proceed.
Don't hook up the printer til it tells you to.
You should alsoYes I know, for some reason the setup file tries to bring me to DOS and my computer doesn't really want to open it... as I mentioned the error message above.

~ Misha <3You did not COMPLETELY type the exact type of your printer.
i have found if your printer is Lexmark 1100 Color Jetprinter then you have
download false driver.
Please try this link and download the driver :
http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?category=Drivers&ccs=229:1:0:4:0:0&searchLang=en&os_group=WinXPOkay, at this point I would have to say that I probably just need to get my grandfather to search through ALL of his CD discs until he finds it.

The printer is actually a SCANNER all in one type deal 1190 actually. The one listed there says 1185 but apparently it works for the printer I have too, but that driver brings me to DOS which apparently doesn't work, then again DOS doesn't work now if I try to play certain games in it, MAYBE my computer just needs to go see a technician since it hasn't in about 3 years. >_>

I thought just reinstalling Win XP might help, but my computer won't even let me do that...
It used to be able to boot from the XP CD but now it just says my windows is too NEW for the version on my disc that came with the computer.

I think Charlotte (my computer) is just tired. I should probably be putting my time and energy into backing up my hard drive at this point instead of trying to get the printer to work ^_^;

Thanks for trying to help.

Have you tried to run the installation from a command window?
Click start/run and type command. Navigate to the folder where you unzipped the driver file and try to run the setup.Yes I did, the same result happened.
