Solve : Printer Spooler?

Answer»

Alright so something really frustrating is going on.

Yesterday morning when I started up my computer, it wouldn't load and was stuck on "busy". I accidentally ended the process of spoolsv.exe, but knowing it would restart later I didn't worry about it.

Until I tried to print something later, it said I had no printer. I made sure my printer was plugged in and everything, my printer was not listed in Printers folder, then tried to go to Add Printer and it says: "Operation could not be completed. The printer spooler service is not RUNNING." I've had the same printer and it's worked great.

Ok, quick check of the processes again, I see that spoolsv.exe IS running.

I've tried, what I think to be everything, this is what I've tried:
1) Completely cleaning the computer of printer drives (via regedit too) and reinstalling/updating. Didn't work.
2) Copying and rewriting spoolsv.exe file from my Windows XP CD to my computer. Didn't work.
3) Going into Services and enabling Printer Spooler again (it's on Automatic). Didn't fix anything, however spoolsv.exe is now in my processes list.
4) Full Virus Scan, just incase. Didn't help.
5) System restore. Didn't work.

I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2 and I have a HP Photosmart C5180.

The printer is recognized through my USB, but fails to install the hardware needed and doesn't say why.

Thanks.try cleaning your resgistry using ccleaner, then install the driver again, restart.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by this, but it doesn't work in safe mode either.

I'm pretty sure re-installing my printer software and drivers is not going to help the situation, as I've done it maybe 5 times now in different situations.have you try my suggestion?the "ccleaner"?
if still doesn't work by that way, just try it on a different computer..to make sure it in very - very good condition. Quote from: kuszmania9999 on September 14, 2007, 12:40:25 AM

Yes that's why I quoted your post and said "Didn't work."

I know it's my computer, it's not the printer. How about a clean install of windows xp?I figured it out! The problem was that I had somehow managed to delete the spoolss.dll file.

I had a friend of MINE send me both their spoolss.dll and spoolsv.exe files to OVERWRITE mine and everything's fixed.

So to anyone else out there, make sure you have both those files, and make sure they're not corrupt.

Thanks guys.sfc /scannow would have replaced both of those automatically.
Glad to hear you are fixed up...Quote from: patio on September 23, 2007, 08:25:02 AM

Funny you should say that, because I tried that with my XP CD and everything. Didn't fix my problem.
