Answer» I am running on Windows XP professional SP2 I have a Beyond Micro, USB 2.0, 250 GB external Hard drive. I installed it as anyone would, and I have been using it for about a week so far. Then one day, I disconnected it and shut it off to cool down, because it had become RATHER hot then i turned it back on and connected it again, and it wouldnt be detected by my computer. it wouldnt show up in device manager or in disk management. i tried restarting my computer etc. and nothing would happen any ideas people? :-/Try it on another computer to see if the problem is the hard drive or the computer. It's probably the former unfortunately. :-/hmm didnt work on my brothers computer oh and please explain what this "former" is :-/The problems were either the hard drive or the computer. Former refers to the FIRST possibility, which is the hard drive. YOu seem to have confirmed the offending item.
I am absolutely NOT impressed with external hard drives, as they are not a safe SPOT for storage of critical files. Look around the board for LOTS of problems and disasters.is there a possible solution to get the hd working again? i have about 40 gigs of anime on the thing...
edit i bought the thing off of tigerdirect. TD CLAIMED that the HD was new but when it arrived, it had scratches and some paint was peeling a little. maybe that could be part of the problem? it was obviously usedIf it is within the warranty term I would contact them. If it is beyond that, you may be SOL,except for being a little wiser.
They have been very good with a few defective product returns for me, and I don't hesitate to shop there.
