Answer» I'm working on Windows XP professional version 2000 SP2. The problem is when ever i try to plug-in a USB device, the OS is crashing and not responding to anything except the manual restart button on the cabinet.
But the PORTS are working all fine without any trouble when i start my PC in Safe mode.
How do i get my USB ports to work without any trouble even when i boot my OS normally? When did this all start? Is every usb device causing this problem? have you tried different devices? If not, what device causes the freeze? If it's a new install, have you installed the chipset driver?it started about 4weeks ago.
the problem is with the ports cos i've tried connecting different USB devices like a card reader, flash drive, camera, etc.
and not a driver installation problemDid anything unusual happen just before the problem appeared (new sw, new hw, virus activity, blue screen error, etc)?So the correct MBoard drivers have been installed ? ? Just making sure here.are you sure its not being slow? maybe its just busy installing drivers for the device you pluged inUhhh...this would only happen if in fact it did...the first time. All drivers perfectly installed.. The os is crashing everytime i plug in any usb device and the only way to get the system workin is either to use the reset button on the cabinet or press hold the power button till the system shuts down.. No unusual activity before the problem started..All MOTHER board drivers r installed good.. I've been using my flash drive regularly without any problem.. All of a SUDDEN, one day i start my pc and plug in my drive and the os crashed.. But i can use all my usb ports without any problem if i boot my os in safe mode.. Which is a headache cos most of the applications i use don't work in safe mode..Open msconfig and choose "selective startup" (disable everything) and reboot. Try the usb PORT. What happens?
