Solve : Problems after restoring??

Answer»

I just got back from vacation, and when I tried to log onto my computer, it was about after a minute or two it just locks up. Like I'll get the hourglass symbol and it won't go away. I can move the mouse, but everything else doesn't respond.

I tried restoring it once, and after I had loaded a few programs it began freezing again, ALWAYS after about a minute or two. I've restored it three times now, and I keep getting this same freezing problem.

I'm using Windows XP, and I have
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual CORE Processor 3800+
2.01 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
Alienware

Is there anything I can do? I can't find any FAQs regarding my problem.

Thanks in advanceBoot into safemode by restarting the machine and tapping F8 repeatedly before you see the Windows splash screen...

Select Safe Mode.
Once in go to Control Panel / System / Advanced / Startup and Recovery...uncheck " auto restart on errors".

You will now get the WONDERFUL BSOD's ( blue screen 'o death ) instead of a restart.
Write down the error message and post it here so we can further diagnose the issues...Thats the problem There aren't any restarts. It just freezes and locks up with a perma-hourglass icon.

I did what you said, unchecking the auto-restart, and the computer froze just as it usually does. When you say you restored it what exactly do you mean ? ?
Did you use system restore or did you re-install XP ? ?
