Solve : Problems with CD Drives?

Answer» HEY folks, I have a little bit of a problem for you.

I just recently had XP installed on my computer. Everything was working quite swell, until I loaded an old CD writing program that I got with the computer when I first bought it.

After that, it said that my driver was invalid, or something along those lines.  I uninstalled the program, and after I did that, both of my CD drives failed to show up.

They were working perfectly fine before that (I transferred backup files I made before the O/S switch from CD to my hard drive).  Any ideas on where to go from here?  If I could find the default XP driver, I WOULD throw it on, but I can't, and I'm not entirely sure if it's a driver issue.

My two drives are: LG CD-ROM CRD-8522B and LG CD-RW CED-8080B.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!Well friend ... try to do system restore because you are using windows XP.
DWWell, for now, we'll just focus on getting those drives back... We'll figure out what went wrong later... LETS try this... Click on Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore ... A new window should appear... Make sure that "Restore my computer to an earlier time" is checked, and click next. You should now see a calendar... Click on the day before, or the same day as this happened... There should be "checkpoints" on one of these days... Click on one of them... Just make sure the one you select is a checkpoint made BEFORE you installed the program. Once you find that date you want, click on it, and click next. A confirmation message will appear. Just make sure everything looks right, and click on finish/ok. Your computer will now restart. You will see a progress meter before it restarts... Be patient, as it may move slowly... Once the computer restarts, boot-up in your name, and see if the drives came back. Give us the details after that. Good luck!

[glb]Flame[/glb]Faaaannntastic!!  The drives are back up.  I won't be installing my cd creator program, which is a shame, because it's the NICEST one that I've seen (Adaptec Easy CD Creator).  I haven't been able to find a newer version on the web yet.

Any ideas on what happened?  When I contacted LG about this problem, they said that these drives weren't supported with XP, but they're working.

Anyways, thanks for all your help.  You guys are friggin GENIUSES!!The drives are fine, it may just be the software, as stated, that is incompatible with the drives, not XP unless something happened when you were copying old files back over.

If the drives were made after Easy CD and the updates are not installed for the program (if you can even still get them) you will not be able to burn.

Adaptec Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum was the best I have seen, but after my 8x CDRW died, I couldn't use it on a newer drive.
