Solve : Problems with computer heating up, slowing down, and not installing SP1?

Answer»

About five weeks ago, I noticed that my computer was heating up to a level far above its normal temperature. It was heating to upwards of 90 degrees according to CoreTemp. This was particularly noticeable when I was watching Netflix or opening multiple tabs. Likewise, whatever is labeled as Core 1 in the CoreTemp gadget was constantly working at nearly 100%. As a result, my computer was SLOWING down and FREEZING up. Now, it is barely useable. I ran CCleaner and SlimCleaner, ran a defrag, and an antivirus scan, to no avail. I also checked to SEE if the fan was working (it was) and purchased a little external cooling fan which sits under my laptop. It also came to my attention that SP1 will not install on my computer.  I have tried doing it automatically through the Windows Update program on my computer and manually by downloading it from Microsoft's website.  This didn't do much of anything either. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

In short: my computer is heating up and slowing down for no apparent reason and I cannot install Service Pack 1.

Is this computer still under warranty?truenorthIm curious, what was happening five weeks ago? i.e. Installs? any damage from hitting or spills? Unfortunately, it is not under warranty.  Nothing physical happened to the computer five weeks ago.  I started noticing the slowed rate of my computer five weeks ago, and the only big thing I changed was to SWITCH from Chrome to Firefox around that time.  It certainly wasn't a very sudden change.
