Answer» I have a P4 2.8 processor and yesterday it locked up. My wife tried to restart and nothing only a black screen no beeps nothing. I removed the processor and reinstalled it restarted ok run for app. 1 hr. and locked up again. How do I determine if its a processor problem or a mother board problem.It could be an overheating problem. It could be an overheating problem. When the computer locks up it will not restart until I remove and reinstall the processor EVERYTIME, do you still believe this could be a temperature problem. The power light stays on THATS it.Did you clean the CPU and re-apply THERMAL Compound ? ? This is important.Yes I cleaned the processor and blew off the board with dry air (caned) then reinstalled thermal compound between the heat sink/fan and processor.Thanks for the help I replaced the Mother Board and I'm back up and running.As long as you got it working.
