Answer» ok i have notice that my computer is somewhat sluggish. my proccessor is a Pentium III that should be running at 1GHz but on Belarc Advisor(a prog that checks your overall system status, it says that the proccesor is running at 996MHz) i want to overclock my system but i am wondering where i can get one of those programs that can check the temperature of the proccesor
plz respond.Speedfan and Everest will tell you your temperatures.thanks calum
and i need some more help too, im going to BUY another fan to overclock my sys and im wondering if i can add another fan(if there is another connector for a fan) my motherboard is for the Dell Optiplex GX150, i dont even know if there is another fan connector but can you send me to a site that can tell me or if you can give me some advice
thanks in advance You're welcome.
The GX150 has only one fan connector, however adapters can be purchased to connect fans directly to the PSU if you have any free Molex (IDE optical drive/HDD connector) power connectors. I doubt you'll get far TRYING to overclock a Dell by the way, the BIOS is locked down to avoid this.ok i remember that there is a slave connector off of the ribbon cable that goes to my CD Drive(My cd drive is connected by the master connector.), could i hook up the fan that way? but just to tell you that my system was used but Dell put in brand new parts in it that just came off the assembly line. but i open up my system and see wat other power connectors are avaible. No, it's the power connector that you need, not the IDE cable. The plug will probably be white, it's not a ribbon cable.
Oh, and re reading your FIRST post, 996MHz is the CORRECT speed for that CPU, and 4MHz wouldn't make any noticeable difference anyhow.ok, but i also wanted to get another fan due to on Speed Fan it said that my HD is overheating perhaps because there is hardly any air flow(there is only a fan for the CPU and a heat sink. and i checked and there arent any unused PSU connectors.Do you not have a system fan then? That would explain the high temperatures. What temperature is your HDD running at?i have a fan and heat sink on my CPU and a fan for my PSU. and Speed fan says my HD is at 50 degress Celcius.Looking again, there's no way to mount a fan on a GX150 anyway as it's so small and fiddly. Sorry but I think you're out of luck. Maybe try cleaning out any dust inside your PC, beyond that there's not a lot you can do.Thanks Calum for all your help.
But one last question, what if i get a standard Desk Fan and set it behind my Computer and let it blow cool air into the computer, could that drop the temp on the HD? You're welcome. Setting it behind the computer will blow the warm air blown out by the PSU back into the computer, where it will not be able to effectively escape.
You could cut a hole in the front of the PC to provide an air intake . . .ok so wat if i turn the fan around to suck all the warm air out would that work?
and the cutting the hole in the frame is a good idea, i'll try that.I doubt that turning the fan round would produce good results. If you do decide to cut a hole be careful not to cut wires etc, it's easily done believe me.Thank you Calum.
