Solve : Processor Fan?

Answer»

I have desktop computer that has a case fan and a power supply fan that run all the time, but when I removed cover INSIDE processor fan does not run is there any SOFTWARE or other way of TESTING if fan is still good or is it not running because it is not hot enough?

Whatever you do , don't attempt to run the processor with the fan taken out.
Those millions of transistors heat up in a second and with fan and heatsink off
the processor will burn. The AMD processors don't have the fast reacting
sensors as do Intel which will shut the processor down.. It will help if you
indicate the type of processor. I suggest that you just get another fan ,which
in most cases comes with the heatsink. May be it's a  CPU sensor problem .
If you have a multitester you can check it for DC voltages .I only have a 534 mhz celeron which is running at around 40 degrees c. I am wondering what the turn on temp of this would have been as new processors run considerable hotter maybe at 40 degrees c. do not need fan?

JohnYou can find a lot of pretty inexpensive fans out there. I don't know of any software to test fans, but then again I've never really looked. But fans are pretty inexpensive, depending on what you get, so it would probably be best to just BREAK down and get a new fan. QUOTE from: John1397 on January 18, 2009, 07:45:59 AM

You should get a new fan as soon as possible, but you should be fine running W/o one for a while. On the other hand- my old 350 Mhz K6-2 would occasionally reach 80 degrees celsius, so do so carefully.Fan motor was out of lubrication I filled it up with racing grease it know works when hooked up to 12 volt power supply so most likely is cpu sensor as previously mentioned so the only fix will be to hook up to 12 or 5 volt supply and run all the time.

John60 c degrease is the common breaking point id keep it below that
