Solve : Processor performance?

Answer»

Looking into buying a new (good) PC, and I was wondering which out of the two following processor options gives the best performance (for GAMING):

Intel i7 620M, 2.66GHz, 4MB L3 cache
Intel i7 920XM, 2.00GHz, 8MB L3 cache

Does the increase in cache in the 920 more than make up for the reduced clock speed?Better have to see intel websiteI did a quick search for benchmarks on the 2 but I wasn't very successful. One reason may be they are laptop cpu"s

If you don't need a laptop, you will get a MUCH better gaming pc for the money by going with a desktop. LAPTOPS do not make very good gaming MACHINES. Quote from: hejlik on May 20, 2010, 10:30:30 AM

This, for sure. You will be disappointed if you buy a laptop for gaming.
With that said, the difference between the chips is that the i5 is a faster dual core with hyperthreading, whereas the i7 is a SLOWER quad core, with hyperthreading and more cache.
If you multitask often, and/or the games you play are multithreaded, the i7 should give better performance, otherwise the i5 should perform better.
