Solve : Processor Project?

Answer»

Hello, I got a project for the two processors I have found.

I will more than likely build a newer computer for my girlfriend. She has an old Dell

now. I have found an Athlon 64 3800 and a P4 2.53ghz Processor. Her favorite color

is Purple. Where can I find a purple case to house all of the stuff I can put inside of it? If your PLANNING to put the Athlon and P4 in the same computer as Dual processors- I don't think that will work...

As per the case, you'll need to get a standard case, and paint it yourself.macrip3 - BC's right ->you absolutely cannot use both the processors on the same motherboard.

As for color: http://www.shopping.com/xPP-pc_cases--exterior_color__search__purple. But painting yourself will allow you to get the exact color that you want.

Best of luck!No...I know that I cannot PLACE them both into one computer. I will build them both into two DIFFERENT computers. Which Processor should I use in the computer for my girlfriend?

Athlon 64 3800 or P4

Not enough info I think the color Purple takes precedent over which processor you use in this build...
But that's just my observation.I know. I will search for one. If I paint this case, I will make the biggest mess anyone will ever see.

Which Processor is better? The Athlon is rated, I believe, at 2.4 gigahertz, just slightly slower than the P4 in your example. That's not a huge difference. It may come down to personal preference.

Others with more experience will post here, too.I'd choose the Athlon.
It will run cooler than the P4 and will also be faster.
the model number, although AMD denies it, does roughly correspond to the speed of P4 it competes against, so it's roughly equivalent to a 3.8GHz P4. I'd go on the conservative side and say a little less, but it's certainly more than a match for the Intel. Thanks, Calum -- I got my info from a review page that said the Athlon was rated at 2.4, but I, too, always thought the model number corresponded with its speed.Think ahead a little - both of these processors are dated. What motherboard will you use? How much memory will it support? What operating system will you use? (If Vista, use at least 2GB, more up to 4 GB if the board will handle it.) What are the COST differences (if important) between the Athlon system and the Intel system? (In this regard, I've only seen the P4 you MENTIONED paired up with RDRAM memory. Can it run with DDR memory?)

Have fun?!

The actual speed is 2.4, its rated speed (using one convention) is 2.8.
drmsucks also ash some good points to consider, IMHO either of those CPUs is only worth building a system round if you already have the parts.
