Solve : Processor question...?

Answer»

I'm looking for a computer for my mom, she wanted a new laptop and while searching for her, I FOUND a really nice laptop on sale and everything looked great in it except for the processor. It had an AMD Sempron 3500 processor. I don't know much about this type of processor, is it the equivalent of a CELERON? If so I'll just tell her to pay an extra $50 and have them upgrade the processor to an Athlon 64 Dual Core. Thanks for the help!your exactly right *

sempron AMD / celeron Intel

There's nothing wrong with a sempron for surfing the net and basic word processing etc...

A dual -core would be nice though, if your inclined to spend the extra bling...Thanks! I thought they were equivalent, but I wasn't 100% sure. Check the pricing on a laptop with an AMD 3800 CPU...you may be pleasantly surprised. Thanks PATIO I'll definitely look into that. yah some of the 3800's are cheaper. Otherwise if she is not gaming or video editing she will be fine.Yeah, she's not going to be gaming or editing anything. Mostly just word processing applications. Thanks guys! You've been a lot of help!t
The 3800 gives quite a bit of bang for the buck...just ordered one myself.I know this is an old thread now, but just to let everyone know we got my mom a refurbished laptop from Dell with an Athlon 64 X2 processor. She loves it. Now I'm jealous. As long as Mom is happy...what ELSE MATTERS in Life ? ?

That's right Patio, cause if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
