Answer» Hey,
I'v notesed a change in my computer of late.
The Processor cooling fan is 'quiet' and speeds up to cool the processoer when its running hot. all fair enough expecting the processor to be slogging away and needing cooled down however id say the past month, even when running simple programs the fan is increaseing its speed
for example just running this browser (firefox) and media player (win MP 11) it seems to be running hot?
It never used to get so 'hot' as DEEMED by the fan racing then when i close the browser it will slow down and be quiet again...
Iv looked through the processes in the task manager and theres nothing much there, the CPU usage history is down so the processor does not seem to be doing very much and iv run virus scans the lot to check if one was hogging the processor but its not so im not sure whats wrong any IDEAS?
My computer is a Compaq Evo D510 SSF 1Gb RAM Intel(r) P4 2.8Ghz 533Mhz system bus
It has also slowed down considerably and just wondering if anyone knows what might be wrong?
Sodaopen it up and do a DUST check. If the case if full of dust, then that cuts down on air circulation, possible helping that issue.
I looked up the system, and it looks like one of those small case deals. "the Evo D510 has no wasted space inside. Although this means the components are tightly packed, servicing is relatively easy."
that shouldnt be too much of a problem i hope, and it would seem this is the kind of issue that would LIKELY happen with that case design.
The reason behind this is that Intel CPUs throttle themselves back to a lower CLOCK after a certain temperature is reached. Unfortunately for you, Pentium IV chips tend to run hot, I will link you to a temperature monitor that you can download and check your temps with, when i find one. Maximum acceptable temperature for your CPU will be found shortly also. Thanks for the reply,
I did a dust check and the whole unit was suprisingly very clean, hardly any dust on the heatsink or the fans...

As a fan ages it sometimes will start sounding louder. IOW, everything may be as it was, except the fan is louder. If you think that may be what you are hearing, try running Speedfan. After launching, minimize it to your System Tray and access it as needed to verify temps and fan speeds during these "events".
