Solve : Protect HD read-only partition from format? |
|
Answer» Hi there folks. Nothing free and easy. No yet.I didn't find this feature ,is it a software? I think it's a physical lock on the new seagates, remember i want to lock only a partiton of the HD,and by password not physically. it must be something to do just with the BIOS. No, not software alone. A real partition lock is down at a very low level in the CONTROLLER hardware, It is either firmware or a ASIC ** on the electronics card of the hard drive. An example is the drive used on game consoles. You can not reformat them unless you haven the secret codes. This can be applied to one partition and not the other, allowing the OS and DATA to have separate areas on the drive. The user can not erase the whole drive. More information about this is on the Seagate forums. If you are a manufacture, Seagate can sell your company a a custom control card to do what you want. Software only locks are too easy to crack. But you might try it anyway. http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/lock-drive.html Or Google Drive Lock Software ** http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuit |
