Solve : ps/2 mouse and keyboard failure after boot?

After a new build I installed windows xp home edition, OEM version. After BOOT up I get the desktop okay and can open Internet explorer, when I go to type a FIELD, everything freezes, I can't use KEYBOARD or MOUSE.
Sometimes when I boot up, the mouse and keyboard freeze straight away.
AMD Sempron
512DDR memory
80gb HDD
ASUS motherboard
anyone know what to do?
