Solve : ps2 mouse?

Answer»

I am running xp, have not added or deleted any programs. I unglugged the ps2 ball mouse, and plugged in a different one. Now, neither works. I have tried both mice on a different computer, and they both work. I rebooted. Should I try it in safe mode? ThanksWell, it can't hurt to try. I don't have any real suggestions, the only thing I can think of is maybe you busted the USB port. My friend did that to his brand new laptop and had to sell it for a $200 loss.Dis you disconnect it through Windows or just pull it out?Did you turn the computer off before removing the mouse?

Alan <><  hummer .....  Could you please clarify that you were using a PS2 mouse and not a USB mouse......  It sounds like you are using a USB ...... Quote

You may possibly have a damaged USB port which may have effected the other USB PORTS as well .
Go into control panel/system/hardware /device manager and see if anything shows up in there ...... look at the USB contollers as well as the USB Root hubs.......
Do you have any other USB devices plugged in and working...... like a PRINTER, webcam , scanner ...... if you do check to see if they are working.

Do you have a PS2 mouse to try?

let US know

dl65  He clearly says it's a PS/2 mouse, so I don't get where the confusion comes from...

Have you verified that both of these devices work by trying them on another computer?LOL...... Touche...... CBMatt.......

Oh my, I do believe it is time to get my dueling glove.  Heh.Somewhere in here the gender of hummer was assumed.

Now everybody get street1. I'm sexist, so I automatically assume everyone is male. Quote from: CBMatt on April 24, 2007, 06:45:48 PM

Me too. LOLWHEW!!! Well, thanks for the interesting banter.............

Let me start at the beginning.........I am a FEMALE.

Since I posted, I tried a cordless mouse with a USB connection. The mouse WORKED fine, but after a while, the KEYBOARD quit working!

So, I disconnected the USB, powered down. Plugged back in the original PS2 mouse, and rebooted.

Neither keyboard or mouse worked.

Returned an hour later and the keyboard was working, but still no PS2. I put the USB mouse back in and it worked.

SO......no I have a keyboard, and USB mouse, but why the *censored* (whoops, can I say that?? LOL) doesn't the ps2 work?

Thanks guys!!

P.S. This is not "my" computer. I am a TEACHER, and this is the piece of crap at school.....Well,I was pointing out the gender issue because....

(hummer) makes me think of a female.
