Solve : PS2 Problems?

Answer»

Okay, so I'm working on my ps2 when I had a few problems. The thing is I have to clean the lense to get ps1 games to work. But I cant get it to read any cds. I used rubbing alchol but not sure if it will read ps1 since it comes up with the disc read error. Any ideas?Do what I did with my XBOX and take the thing apart. I did.You probably need to re-focus the lens. I don't know about slim PS2s since I have a fat one, but if you open up the drive at the top of it there should be a white gear. If you turn that it'll focus the lens, this takes some time as it is all trial and error.

Here is a guide I found.

I actually got my PS2 for free from a friend because it was broken. The tray was stuck, the lens was unfocused and dirty, the wire that goes from the power and eject buttons to the "motherboard"? was pulled out and the disc wouldn't spin. It's been working fine for like 3 years now.....i herd this of being a common problum and there is a easy way to fix it...?? How get ANOTHER then use the parts on a new one to fix the next? http://faqs.ign.com/articles/387/387912p1.htmlWell I'll try doing that tommorow, but I did try one thing an it did fix that one disc I had problems with. I spent 50.00 on it an it would have cost 15 to get a new one. So I can use that money on something else. Its not listing my model is a 39001 an only list a 30001 ver 4, not much differnece thought. However I went to go an fix this an cant figure out what they mean by expansion bay cover? There is a thing called the expansion bay which I looked at but he had SAID ribbon cables so I thought it ment the cd drive. But there are SEVERAL screws under it. I had to spend time putting back the ribbon cables. So I'm not sure.Just take out the PLASTIC and rubber squares from the bottom of the PS2 and unscrew all those screws, the top of the case should come off. Then unscrew the 4 tiny screws holding the top cover of the disc drive and take that off. Clean the lens and focus the laser with the white gear at the top of the drive. First take a marker and put a dot on the gear to show where it was originally, then turn the gear by 3 teeth in either direction. Put the cover of the drive on it and hold it down with your hand and SEE if it will read the disc. If not, turn the gear some more. Keep trying until it'll read all discs.
