Answer» I have a EMachineW3107 that is a couple of years old (I THINK) Anyways, I can't turn it off by the button, I have to unplug it but when I plug it back in, it's still on, I guess it hasn't finished the shut down command, I really don't know but of course it won't do anything. It won't shut off, that's my problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, CDHey there CD,
I had that problem some years ago and I found that the drastic step of formating and then replacing Windows fixed the problem for me - I was running 98SE at the time. Having said that, it could be a hardware problem rather than software - not much help I'm sorry. For future reference I have found that shutting down running programs using the 'file - exit' function rather than the 'X' in the top r/h corner preserves the integrity of your software and helps to keep your Operating System stable. Some will scoff at that but I have found it works over time. Perhaps see a Tec REGARDING the power down ISSUE before formatting. That's the way I tried to shut it down but it wouldn't shut down so I unplugged it. Now when I plug it back it, it's still on, it won't shut down.
Thanks Tony but I can't get back on the puter to do anything with it LOL

Are you just pressing the power switch or are you holding it in for a bit? Most BIOS are set to default that a power switch held in for something like 5-6 seconds should force a shutdown. If you've tried that then just ignore me. Sounds like the power switch itself has gone bad...Heya CD.
