Answer» Do I need a new motherboard? I'm currently USING a M2N4-Sli, does anyone know if it will take a quad core cpu (AMD Phenom) or do I need a whole new mobo? mobo specs follow...
Manufacturer ASUSTeK Computer INC. Model M2N4-SLI Version 1.XX Serial Number 123456789000 Chipset Vendor Nvidia Corp Chipset Model nForce4 Memory Controller South Bridge nForce4 PCI to ISA Bridge SMBus Nvidia Corp nForce4 SMBus 4C00h SMBus Nvidia Corp nForce4 SMBus B000h CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Cpu Socket Socket AM2 [Socket AM2 ] Processor UPGRADE Max CPU Speed 3700 MHz System Slots 6 PCI Memory Summary Location System board or motherboard Maximum Capacity 4096 MBytes Memory Slots 4 Error Correction None Use System memory Maximum Memory Module Size 1024 MBytesSingle and dual core only...if you want to move up to quad you will need a new MBoard...Aww nevermind, I'm switching to ATi anyway so I might as well have a crossfire mobo (not that I would ever pay for 2GPU's)
Just out of curiosity how did you find that out? From the ASUS website...I take it then that if its not in the AM2+ SECTION then it won't take one?
(of course overlooking the fact that 'Phenom' processors arn't on the 'supported processor list)
Duh I'm such a RETARD, that's the first place I looked and I completely missed that.
