Solve : Question about an older board..?

Answer»

I have a laptop with an Intel 845MP chipset in it.  it has a pentium 4-m 1.8ghz processor in it.  I was lookingin the service manual for it and it shows the DIFFERENT processors it could possibly be shipped with... the list goes up to 2.2ghz however intel makes the P4-M's faster than 2.2ghz.. so I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out if I can upgrade beyond 2.2...even to 2.4 or something if I could that'd be great.  I've looked and maybe i'm just looking in the wrong PLACES or searching the wrong keywords. All I want basically is a CPU support list for the Intel 845MP chipset.  If ANYONE can help, thank you!!!  Oh yeah the computer is a Compaq Evo N1000c although I think the chipset should be all that matters *SHRUGS*  Thanks!!

JayI would go to a repair shop to get a quote on swapping out the CPU on that laptop before going any further...this can be costly and may not be WORTH it.To be perfectly HONEST, it's really not worth it.
It will be very costly if it's even possible, and the performance increase will not be very much.
Heat issues make the upgrade tricky, so I doubt you could get anything faster than a 2.2 anyway. And laptop CPU swaps are not for the faint of Heart...

For one thing you have to have above average soldering skills and all the proper tools.
