Solve : RAID 0 Recovery / Defective disk??

Answer»

Hi all,

I have a 250Gb seagate barracuda hard drive (SATA 150) set up by itself in a RAID 0 configuration. The last couple of days, Windows XP has repeatedly insisted on a data integrity check and had problems with a particular sector (but no data lost).

However, on switching on today, the computer hung , and on reboot NONE of the drives (I have 3 hard drives, 2 on IDE 2 and 1 on the SATA) were recognised as existing. I checked the cabling and the 2 ide drives reappeared, but FastTrak insists that no RAID array is set up on my main drive. There are no arrays set up at all.

I have ordered a replacement drive, and recovery software to make an image copy of the apparently arrayless drive. I am not sure what would happen if I told fastbuild to build a NEW array... would I lose all data?

More importantly, why did the raid array INFORMATION dissappear? Is it likely that my drive is dying (I have only had it 14 months).? :-?

I'm running an Asus K8V motherboard with an Athon 64 3000+ and 1024Mb Ram. Problems started with my usb WIRELESS keyboard going on the fritz and difficulties getting my e-mu 1616 to be recognised. I had just got it working last night and then the drive goes weird on me.

Cheers for any help with this...

Iain
