Solve : Ram compatibility question?

Answer»

I am trying to upgrade the ram in a Gateway mx3225 notebook. It comes with 256 mb of ddr2 sodimm @533mMHz and is expandable to 1 gig. There is only one port. I BOUGHT a 1 gig chip that says it is compatible with pc2-4200 ddr2 [emailprotected] The laptop will not boot when I install the chip. After I bought the chip (duh) I looked at the OLD one and it say pc2 4200s. The chips I bought say compatible for pc2 4200 with no (s). Is that a problem. I THOUGHT the first chip I bought was dead so I got another one PNY that also said it was compatible. It was cheap so I figured to try again. Still the thing will not boot.
Can anyone please give me some suggestions. Even the gateway tech and their spec page for this model only states the ram at ddr2 sodimm 533MHz. They don't even mention pc2 4200 anything.
The os is XP
Thank youInsert the old check so that you can get the comp working again and then follow the below LINK and let the scan run to see what they say is compatible.
