Solve : RAM issues?

Answer»

I recently came to the conclusion that I had bad RAM. Blue screens appeared when I upgraded from Windows 2000 to XP, and I was experiencing frequent reboots accompanied by blue screens during startup and at random times during computer operation. I had a single stick of 512 MB RAM. I ran Memtest with the RAM in each of the 3 slots, and errors came up each time. So today I purchased a new stick of RAM, 512 MB as well, and have tried it in 2 of the 3 slots in the motherboard and am still GETTING frequent reboots. What could be causing this and what can I do now? There may be dirt in the RAM slots...try a can of compressed air to blow them out.

As always when working INSIDE the case remove all power sources and take anti-static precautions...especially with RAM.Just cleaned the slots with compressed air and the reboots are still happening.Go to Control Panel/System/Advanced and uncheck "auto-restart on errors"...

This will get you BSOD's instead of restarts. Write down the error messages and post them here.Whatr is the make/model of the motherboard or computer and what is the brand and ALL of the characteristics of the RAM? What did it say on the package, and not just the speed?Quote from: GX1_Man on June 02, 2007, 03:23:19 PM

Computer: AMD Sempron 2600+
Motherboard: Soyo SY-KT600 DRAGON Plus Motherboard
RAM: Both are 512 MB DDR PC3200, the old one is made by Bravo (product number ADP328TM-50) and the new one by Kingston (K4H560838H-UCCC).

I just ran Memtest with only the new stick of RAM (just purchased today brand spankin' new) in in all 3 slots and got errors every time. There is a chance the RAM was bad although slim...return it for another stick.I just bought 2 new sticks of RAM, one 512 MB and one 1 GB. They are both fully compatible with the motherboard (as taken from the motherboard's WEBSITE). I am still getting common reboots and Memtest SAYS both sticks have errors. Any ideas what to do or what's causing the problem? If memtest SHOWS errors return the RAM as defective...Quote from: patio on June 07, 2007, 08:09:42 PM
If memtest shows errors return the RAM as defective...
Memtest has shown errors with 4 separate sticks of RAM, 3 newly purchased. Coincidence? Could something else be causing this problem?Did you clean out the slots ? ?

DLoad a new zip of memtest and see if there's any difference...test one stick at a time.Yes I cleaned out the slots, and have tested every module in different slots. They've all come up bad, and I've tested with 2 different versions of Memtest. Are you able to run the same tests in another machine ? ? This will confirm whether it's the RAM or the mboard itself...
