Answer» I ordered a M4A79T Deluxe motherboard as seen here http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=lhJiLTN5huPfCVkW&content=specifications Why are you fretting over the BIOS if you haven't even settled on a board ? ? According to his post, he "ordered a M4A79T Deluxe motherboard", so it sounds to me like he has already settled on the board. It's the processor that he referred to in the future tense, which it sounds like he doesn't have yet. Regnier, I don't know where you heard that, but it's something I've never heard nor is it something I've been able to FIND through several searches online. Is this something someone told you or something you READ online or what? The Phenom II X4 is listed in the manufacturer's supported processor list, so there's no reason you should have any trouble. He means will he need to flash the bios for the CPU to work, it's why he is asking about the bios version. On some boards it is necessary to flash the bios to get some CPU's to work. I had to flash one of my old boards to get a certain CPU to work once. Just flash the bios to the version it requires, or buy a board you know works with that CPU. If you are not confident flashing the bios get someone who knows how to do it.Yes, that is what I was talking about. The board is compatible with the phenomIIx4, however, it is not compatible with the Black edition 120w version, so I have to flash it. This is all assuming that ASUS did not upgrade the BIOS on their more RECENTLY produced boards. So from what I gather, flashing is a risky enough action to probably pay a professional to do it? If you don't know how to do it I would get someone who does know.I predict an un-bootable machine... Quote from: regnier on September 24, 2010, 11:27:20 AM The board is compatible with the phenomIIx4, however, it is not compatible with the Black edition 120w version Well, I still don't see anything anywhere that would indicate there would be an issue. Still curious as to where to you get idea. Phenom II X4 Black Edition processor are you looking at? 940? 955? 965? If you're so concerned with how this processor is going to perform with that board, why not get another processor? The only reason you would need a Black Edition CPU is if you were going to overclock, there is NOTHING else special about them other than an unlocked multiplier. |
