Solve : Recovering Data off broken external hard drive??? |
|
Answer» I have an external hard drive that is a few years old. One day it just stopped working. I do not want to pay $300 to have geek squad recover the information. I have read on various websites that i can remove the drive from the case and install it directly into my DESKTOP. The issue im having is that my new desktop uses the SATA and my external hard drive uses the ATA cable. My external hard drive has all of my college work, pictures from 5 years, videos, music, etc. Probably a total of almost 100gigs!!! Any recommendations would be great. I do not want to spend the money to have a pro do it but if that is my only option i understand. I have an external hard drive that is a few years old. One day it just stopped working. Hope that helps.Quote from: hillterry on June 28, 2013, 01:20:10 AM GO TO START-->CONTROL PANEL---->Performance and Maintenance--->Administrative Tools--->COMPUTER MANAGEMENT----->on your left side click on disk management. you will see your external hard drive just make it active "right click" hope that solves if not there are other advanced options let me know if the above answer does not solve the problem. If the drive is dead it's dead. And you don't want to set an external drive as "active".Also, this is a 4 year old thread...Quote from: Calum on June 28, 2013, 06:02:29 AM Also, this is a 4 year old thread...lol - good catch Calum |
