Solve : Removing Case from HP Pavillion 8756C?

Answer»

Pavillion 8756C doesn't power up - no lights, no sound nothing. I changed out the power cord and still nothing. Someone told me that it's probably the psu. I have another 8756C and thought I would grab the power supply out of it to see if that's really the problem. BUT...the real problem now is that I cannot get to where the psu plugs into the mother board or whatever it plugs into. I can only get one side of the case open and this side does not allow me to get to the end of that power supply. So...thought I would just switch out the hard drive for now (need something off that hard drive ASAP) and put the hard drive into the working computer. But, same problem. When I remove the other side of the tower there is still no way to get to this stuff because there is just another case there with no visible screws to remove. Agghhhhhh....frustrating. Any suggestions will be appreciated! Both sides of the case are off and you can't get to the PSU plug for the MBoard ? ?
Something doesn't sound right here. There is an internal case that the motherboard is attached to. The hard drive, CD drives are in a metal housing directly in front of the motherboard. I cannot find any way to remove the housing. It's probably something really simple but I cannot figure it out. I've never seen anything like this before. It's very frustrating to say the least. I can post a picture if I am allowed to do that here if a picture would help.Sure...a pic would be helpful.

I'm not familiar with all HP cases though i've seen some WIERD Dell units in my timeI have run into this before on HP and Compaq machines. The motherboard 'swings' out. Trying to remember here if there are screws near the top front. You have to be very careful when you swing it out because of the cards that are connected to the mb and the back of the case. Putting it all back together: HOLD your breath, try. Breathe deep. Leave the room. Try again. Trust me, if you do that enough, it just falls into place and you want to scream.

My daughter has a Pavillion 8756 and I have had it apart more times than I want to tell you. In FACT, I will be staying over there while they go to Bristol in a couple weeks, and off it comes again!!Thanks for the info. I decided to get on HPs website yesterday and actually found directions for getting to the motherboard. With the HP 8756C the "drive cage" comes out of the front of the computer thereby giving access to the motherboard. It was tricky even with the directions because the screw locations are not accurate. Anyway...I was finally able to get the hard drive out and REPLACED. What an ordeal!

I did find that the last repair shop left my fan unplugged which was a good thing to come across. I GUESS that goes where motherboard is marked CPU_FAN...I'm hoping that is the case anyway.

Thanks again for the help!
