Solve : Replace PSU withy quieter PSU?

Answer»

Hello all,

I have a 2U server out front of our OFFICE that is a bit on the loud side. The motherboard is an Intel S5000PSL and the power supply is a Rackable Systems 3F27-45-1. I don't care if the cPSU doesn't fit because I have made some customizations to the fans to make the entire rack server quieter. Just the PSU in the thing is loud as .... . Any suggestions would be appreciated. It can be fanless or quiet. I would like to try to keep the budget right around $100 or so.

Here are links for the mobo and PSU for reference:

Motherboard : http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/apac/eng/products/server/boards/dp/s5000psl/feature/index.htm
PSU : (This is all I can find) http://www.dhgate.com/product/rackable-systems-450w-2u-1u-server-power/159911467.htmlAre you sure that only the PSU is loud?  Servers tend to use EXTREMELY loud powerful fans throughout. What about considering a different location away from people. 19" rack mount servers are designed to mounted in cabinets with a certain airflow and when closed in the cabinet are not normally too noisy. But still noisy enough that you couldn't  have it beside you for hours on end.
Is the server case still SEALED like no missing covers or extra holes due to mods. A $100 power supply that is better than the one you have isn't likely, most sever supplies START at $200 up and for 2U servers NEW are super expensive.camerongray: Yes the tiny little fan in the PSU is VERY loud. It used to be louder but I replaced a few of the fans and the machine runs quieter but now it's just the PSU fan.
