Solve : Replacing hard drive, deactivate WinXP??

Answer»

My hard DRIVE is making a lot of noise on start up, so I'd like to REPLACE it.

Do I need to deactivate Windows XP before I put in the new drive?
If so, how would I do it?

I only have the original Windows CD that I bought when building this machine. I'd HATE to have to buy another license because of faulty hardware. No, unless it's a very RECENT installation you're fine. Go ahead and do the install. If you do encounter a problem (and I'd be very surprised if you do) you will be given a number to call at MS. Just MAKE the call, explain the situation, and you'll be given a new activation code.Quote from: Allan on September 30, 2009, 12:56:08 PM
