Solve : Replacing RAM in eMachines?

Answer»

I'm trying to upgrade my sister's old system. She has an old eMachines with PC2100 RAM and a 400MHz FSB (according to ONLINE documentation.) There is some PC3200 memory on sale. Will the 3200 work?

Will a memory chip with a faster FSB RATING, lower CL rating, and higher PCXXXX number work in an older, slower motherboard? What does the PCXXXX number mean?

EXISTING:
eMachines T2542
256MB of PC2100, CL 2.5, 266MHz FSB
Intel 845G chipset
2.50 GHz CELERON processorHi, a quick check on crucial showed that you could go up to 2gb.
