Answer» I have an HP Pavilion elite m9040n with a dead mother board. It has 3072mb memory, 640 hard dr, dvd burner/light scribe, NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS, pocket media drive bay, TV tuner, 15 n 1 card reader/tv remote, wireless lan 802.11. Vista ...Can I recycle some of the features from the old tower (ex the pocket drive bay) to save money or will the cost of having someone install the items not be worth it? Don't know how to do it myself...What makes you say the motherboard is dead? If it is truly dead, you can purchase an equivalent for $50-100 and pay someone to install it. In this case, cheaper to repair than replace.I agree with Computer_Command. You can keep that machine alive for awhile. and save money. But, here a re some ideas. Amazon and other PUT that machien a near $1400 new. That is a bit pricy. A refurbished unit with a warranty is less half the price. But for that much money, you can get a nice bare new machine with a NEWER CPU. Then salvage the RAM and HDD and DVD drive. If you just go for the mother board, think about Gigabyte. Three year warrenty. The hard part is you can not use your OS on the new motherboard. (I may be wrong on this, but something like that is what a MS agent told me on the phone) If it were me, I would think about warranty and the cost of a new OS. If it were me i'd get a 2nd opinion on why you think the MBoard is dead...Quote from: novelgoddess on November 07, 2009, 04:26:13 PM I have an HP Pavilion elite m9040n with a dead mother board.you had better make sure the reason why your motherboard was dead. of it cannot be repaired well, you have to have a new ONE. |
