Solve : Roland SCC-1 question? |
|
Answer» Would it be worth it to install a second Roland SCC-1 MIDI card into the old computer where I installed one earlier this year? The Roland SCC-1 has a maximum polyphony of 24 voices, and I'm WONDERING if I might be able to install a duplicate SCC-1 on the exact same SETTINGS of I/0 336 and IRQ 3. Since the MPU-401 Windows driver is already installed and using those settings for the SCC-1, I don't think there'd be a problem. (Of course, I'd have to connect the midi cards to each other using their midi ports.) Would installing a duplicate card increase the maximum polyphony or would it not? I need to know this in advance before searching for one in the future. As of now there isn't one on eBay, and I'd like to know if one of you guys has one you could sell to me at some point. I can't buy one right now as I don't have the money.I don't think this would work.... since if you have them both on the same IRQ/DMA/etc, they will be receiving the same MIDI instructions, and therefore their internal state (such as used voice buffers) will be the same. You can install them separately, but I don't think you would double the number of voices you can have.Would I need to put the cards on different IRQs and/or Input/Outputs then? I'd have to look into it and make sure that there's free IRQs available on the computer. While I may be able to take advantage of this in Windows using a Custom midi setup, this probably won't work in DOS games as I'll be FORCED to use one card or the other. |
