Solve : SATA and Raid Support?

Answer»

Hi i am buying a new PCI E motherboard that has SATA Support and Raid Support. I have one problem i dont know what these are, or what they do, could you give me any advice as to what they are and do, as an inter net search didnt help.Frankie this is a lenghty topic.  I suggest you go to http://www.webopedia.com/ and look up the terms.  It will go a long way towards explaining the terms.  Typically RAID is used on Servers and on high-end PCs.  It is method of "fault tolerance" (look it up).  SATA is a new hardware interface that offers ADVANTAGES over IDE, and older interface.  Hope this helps Quote

1. SATA Support and
2. Raid Support.

1. If you are buying a Hard Disk Drive, make certain it is SATA. Doing so will yield better (performance) results. However, IDE HDDs may be cheaper and allow for easier Windows installation because they do not need seperate drivers.

2. RAID support you will most likely not use. It would require for you to have two or more identical HDDs which will both have the same type of DATA written should one Hard Disk Drive fail. It is not likely that the average user will want to make use of this.

Ok thanks ALOT GUYS. Quote
