Answer» does SATA II require a different interface to normal SATA? I have machines with SATA drives in them and am replacing drives with sata II drives. I can GET SATA II as long as it is backwards compatible with normal SATA motherboard connectors and does not require any special PCI card adapter. I'm new to SATA II. I have a AMD 3000fx motherboard.. no idea the specs but its a year old and WORKS with SATA. Any info welcome. Cheersi beleive SATA II drives are backwards compatible with SATA150 connections. however, they will run at SATA speeds of course.Odd. Overclockers.co.uk tech support said SATA II is not compatible with old sata connections. My techie friends says he thinks they are. It's crazy that no one seems to know yet there are thousands of sata II drives on sale all over the web. CRAZY! I mean REALLY!!! I have asked 5 separate geek sites, put questions up on numerous forums, asked all my geek friends. DOES anyone know for sure?! 49% say sata II works with SATA connections. 49% say it doesn't work at all and you need a pci card or sata II motherboard. And then there's a few 2% SAYING it will work but only at SATA 150 speeds. If anyone has FIRST HAND experience, please do comment and let us all in on this apparently elusive secret Excuse my abruptness- it just seems like an obvious question to me that everyone buying a new HD should be asking. The point of sale should be able to give you a satisfying answer. Either E-mail technical support or speak to the salesman. If they can not tell you, you know it's time to shop at a new store.
