Solve : SCANNING QUESTION?

Answer»

Hi, All.

I am new to this forum and hope to find some help. My question involves a scanner.

I am running XP Home, SP3, with plenty of RAM. I recently connected a Canon MF6540 Scanner/Copier. Very good unit. The software with the Canon allows one to make scans in pdf format, Word format and a few others.

Question: When I have 100 pages to scan, I want it to result in one file, to enable easy attachment to an email or for copying/moving to some other location.
The scanner has an auto feed tray, which holds 25-30 originals. When this particular load is run, and a second load of 25-30 originals is inserted in the scanner, the scanner software makes separate files. Thus, if you have 200 pages to scan, you end up with 8 separate files. I need to have an end result of one file.

I have the Adobe pdf viewer, but not the full Adobe program, which is expensive. The Adobe viewer does not have the facility to merge files. The scanner software will interface with Word, which might be an avenue to solve this problem ... not sure at this point.

I believe this must be a common SCANNING problem. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions anyone has.

Thanks to everyone in advance.

Regards,

BoochalHello, and welcome to the forum. I see two basic approaches here. One is to go the Word route, combining all the output from your scanning into one Word file, and then convert that file to PDF. If you have Word 2007, I believe you can save directly to PDF. If you have an OLDER version of Word, or I'm mistaken about Word 2007, you could INSTALL a PDF converter such as PrimoPDF and use it to convert your Word file to PDF.

ANOTHER option would be a tool like PdfMerge, which would allow you to merge multiple PDF files into one file. Both PdfMerge and PrimoPDF are free, at least for personal use. Check the license agreement when installing for more details. Soybean,

Many, Many Thanks for your response. I downloaded PdfMerge from Snapfiles.com and it works very well.

Thanks again for the very valuable information. You have really solved a problem for me.

BoochalGlad to hear problem solved. Come back anytime.
