Answer» Hello to all Newbie here with my first post and wondering if anyone can offer any advice. (I'm familiar with how forums like this work and am a site Moderator on one of my car related ones, so I'm NORMALLY the one handing out advice many times a day, but with computers I'm not very good .
Machine in question is a 1 year old, bog standard Acer Aspire 5633 LAPTOP with a 15.4 widescreen display.
Just under a week ago I switched on as normal but the screen had shrunk leaving a large black border down the right and a thin black strip at the bottom. Upon investigation it had changed from the usual 1280x800 to 1024x768.
Now I've had intermittent success with changing it back by going to Control Panel > Device manager and re-installing the Display Adapter (Mobile Intel (R) 945GM Express Chipset Family), and also re-installing the Monitor Driver (Generic PnP Monitor) and after switching off and back on again, sometimes it restores back to 1280x800 but as soon as it's turned off and I come back to it the next day, it's shrunk again. Also, this procedure doesn't work everytime and more often than not it doesn't help. I don't know if they are the proper names for them, I'm just going on what it says on the screen?
This laptop's been fine for over a year and I've not changed anything whatsoever on it to make this happen, it's just come out of the blue?
Totally lost here, and I'm not very good with the technicalities of computers - I can use the software I need for my job, but that's about it.
Any help or explanations would be greatly appreciated, and if you need any further info help diagnose the problem, I'll try and find it out
Thanks Mark I will ASSUME you tried going into Control panel>Display>Settings then adjust your settings.
Alternatively, could you do a SYSTEM restore to a point before your problems began?Quote from: Karnac on April 15, 2009, 08:47:03 AM I will assume you tried going into Control panel>Display>Settings then adjust your settings.

I've tried the first suggestion, yes but it's giving the maximum I can go to as still being 1024x786.
How would I go about doing the system restore, PLEASE ? (I reckon I'd only need to go back a week as it was fine up to then)
Thanks Here's some info to get you going.... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/Many thanks for that, I'll have a read through it You're most welcome....Good Luck....it's pretty straightforward.
