Solve : Secondary Master Drive - ATAPI Incompatible?

Answer»

Hey:)

I don't know what kind of information you guys are going to need to help me out, so I'll give you everything I know.
My english isn't perfect, and had a hard time finding the english names on the computer parts..

My computer:
Motherboard:Asus P5K SE, P35, Socket-775, DDR2, ATX, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
Graphics Card: XFX GeForce 8600GTS 675M 256MB GDDR3, PCI-Express, 2xDVI/HDCP, 675/2000Mhz
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.67GHz 1333Mhz Socket LGA775, 4MB, BOXED w/fan
Memory Card(RAM): Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 2048MB CL5 Kit w/two matched CM2X1024A-6400 Dimm's
Samsung SpinPoint P80SD 120GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM NCQ
CD-rom: Samsung DVD recorder TS-H552U IDE Black Bulk DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW

Operating system: Microsoft XP Home SP2 Norsk

The problem:
I just bought a new motherboard, a new graphic card, a new processor and a new (memory card).
Me and my dad followed the instructions in the user's manual, and placed the new parts on the new mother board.
But when we boot it, we get a notification of a fault:
Secondary Master Drive - ATAPI Incompatible
Press F1 to resume.

When we press F1, It says : Checking NVRAM
Then this message comes up:
Invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any key

This is the only THING we get up.
We tried to check the homepage of the motherboard card, but they asumed that you have entered the computer before, and we don't even get that far.
The user's manual didn't say anything about this.

So, my question is:
How can I make the Secondary Master Drive ATAPI compatible?
If that's not possible, what do I do?

And please, don't use all those weird expressions like most people do.
Try to explain it really easy and detailed, cuz I'm not very good at this.

Thanks in advance Most of the time...recieving these messages may mean you have a FAILED...or failing drive.

You mentioned what you purchased...so I'm ASSUMING you used your old drives for the new build.

Again, the problem may not be with your motherboard...you are recieving system messages from the board telling you something is wrong...and they are pointing to the drive...so...in my opinion...trying a new drive...and setting up with this new build should correct the problem.

I'm assuming you are also referring to the optical drive...since normally, the Primary Master is the hard drive...correct?

You may want to wait to see what others say, though...

Keep us posted...YES, i used my old drives..
Me and my dad also thought of buying a new drive, but I decided to check the internet to see if somebody has had the same problem.. And I found out that several peope have had almost the same problems.
But the people who helped them used to advanced expressions etc. for me.
They kept using expressions like: jumpers, secondary IDE connections and many more.
I don't understand these expressions, and therefor I can't understand what they want me to do.Answer a few questions for me, please...

1) The Secondary Master is your optical drive...since you are getting the message it is not Atapi compatible...correct?

2) If the above is the case...do you have another spare you can use? If not...you may need to borrow a known working one...or purchase a new one.

3) The drive in question...if optical...is it a plain CD drive...CD burner...or combination CD R/W DVD drive?

It just depends on your preference...as far as the drive goes...what you want...or what you are currently using.1. I don't know, what's an optical drive?
2. I don't have any spare ones I think, and therefor I maybe have to order a new one.
3. It's a combination of cd-drive and cd-burner.An optical drive IS a CD drive...

It would be better if you could get one you know works from an existing machine...maybe...this way...you could actually test to see if it is indeed the problem...without having to buy a new one...just yet.

So you just have regular CD burner, huh? You can find cheap ones online for as little as $20 (USD)...not too much of an investment...but an investment jsut the same. Since you've already updated most of the system...why not? It's up to you, though.

Still...let us know how it goes...Me and my dad decided that it was easier to just order a new hard disk and a new cd burner.
Ty for trying to help me The Saviour You're quite welcome...

Listen...please keep us posted and let us know how the build goes...okay? We always like to see these things through to the end...if you know what I mean...I have just found the same problem in my PC. when i try to arrange a using DVD-Rom to a Laptop with workable a 20Gb DVD-ROM. I found the same problem like Atapi Incompatible..
But after that i try with my system with no hard disk, but the problem come still. Then I try to fix it well and change a better position of the connection. and push more close to the connecters.
It work again, So in my view, this problem are probably coming from the connection between the mainboard and the DVD Rom.

It could be a damaged DVD drive.

Anyways, HuJianWu, start a new topic please.
