Solve : Serial ATA and IDE hard drives?

Answer»

I want to build a computer to work purely as a CCTV DVR.

I am going to go for a Geovision DVR card (GV800).

My motherboard (ASUS P4P800-VM) supports 2 x Serial ATA drives.

I was wondering can I put a small 10 gig hard drive containing winXP on the IDE channel and then use 1 x of the serial ATA channels for a 400 gig hard drive to store the video output whilst keeping the other serial ATA channel SPARE for a future UPGRADE for more video storage?

If this will work, would I have any speed issues?

Thanks

SteveNo, it is a very good idea.  That way the OS and the video can operate off of seperate controllers giving you almost simultaneous throughput.  Many corporate servers are setup similarly in that one controller handles the drives needed for the OS and some programs while another handles data and data operations.
