Solve : Server looking for keyboard?

Answer»

Hello,

First time poster.

I have a server running XPP on a simple motherboard that doesn't support startup without a keyboard plugged in. There are times when a soft or hard reset is needed. If someone is in the server ROOM, all is well. If not, then we need to send someone down there to re-boot with a keyboard plugged in. I might add that even with a KVM switch, the bios wiggs out and still forces a keyboard for startup.

My options are this:

  • Replace the mobo with an updated bios and with luck and lots of time it should work fine (time and money)
  • Buy a cheap keyboard and keep it plugged in. (looks like c**p)
  • Fine a keyboard simulator that will fool the PC into thinking that a keyboard is plugged in.

My question is this:

Items 1 & 2 are easy enough, but item 3 has me WONDERING if there is such a thing.

Anyone?

Thanks,

RSRDid you try using the  onscreen keyboard.......ACCESSORIES*/accessibilty...>>>on screen k/bdI believe the on screen keyboard is only available after windows starts. The bios is looking for a keyboard on post-up. Without one, it errors out and will not start the OS.

RSRBuy a cheap keyboard and keep it plugged in. (looks like c**p)  >>>>>>> oskb  BUTS it a sever.......which normally STAYS on 24/7?even in hibination mode the oskb would work??
