Solve : Setting Resolution on a Compaq 5500 Monitor?

Answer»

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Just picked up an OLD Dell computer (500 MHz with a127 Ram and a 6 G hard drive) and a Compaq 5500 Coloreal monitor. Am running Windows 98se.

Problem:
I cannot set the display resolution on the monitor. When I go to settings via desktop property settings (or thorough the control panel), the resolution is set at 640 x 480 and the tab will not move. There are 3 bottons on the front of the monitor. The first brings up a circle of ICONS and within the circle is 640x480 H: 31.5 V: 60Hz.

Does anyone know how to set the resolution on this Compaq 5500 monitor?

Thanks,
tlcmdDo you have the model of that computer? Did you GET any RESTORE CD's with it? If not, visit Dell's website and search for video drivers for that computer so that you can reinstall the DRIVER. If you have difficulty finding a driver, post the model of your computer here, so we can help.

Also, if you can test that monitor on another computer and see whether you can set the resolution to a higher setting, that would confirm that the monitor is not defective. Conversely, if you can find another monitor to try using with that computer, try it and see whether you can set resolution to a higher setting.
