I have CNC machines with XP OS. I need to take backup from those machines to the server every 8hrs..
Which server(config) would be good for this plan? And how can it be done?
Guidance/suggestions are most welcome. Hi
Any server that has a static IP can be used for backup so a nas box or windows server would be ok. You could install an old version of paragon drive backup SAY version 9.0 this has a SINGLE install file so easy to install onto the cnc machines hard drives . It also is able to recover a drive using a BOOT floppy. Backups can be scheduled and can be a complete image of the machines hard drive. You may only need to do this once every few months and the rest of the time just backup the WORKING files. If this is the case consider MAPPING a network drive under xp on the cnc machines or writing a batch file to map a network share and use say rsync or roadkils unstoppable copier to copy the data to a folder on the server. You don't really need a server just a network shared directory or drive.
It would help if you could tell me if the cnc machines drives are accessible from a computer on the network already .
Hope this is of some help

Hey Lisa Maree
Few times you already helped me in chat. Thanks again.. I'm so new to this SERVER THING.
1. We are the part supplier.. At present we use to Copy the datas with USB.. Now from the customer end we are advised to use SERVERS as because they may need the backup at any time..
2. The CNC XP machines are not connected to our network.
3. Aim of Backup : To verify the CNC Programs data (only in MB)..
4. We have more than 30machines but at present we have planned to fix it with 2 CNC machines. In future we may increase(after years)
Thanks in Advance M
