Solve : setting up new pc?

Answer»

my original pc ( #1 ) has malware and viruses; I BOUGHT a new pc, wish to hook it up to the existing router, transfer files to the new computer, then trash the OLD router.  will malware and
viruses pass to new pc if I hook it up to the existing router / pc #1 ?Hi

The quick answer is yes it will transfer the VIRUS's and spyware.

Why are you not able to clean the data of virus's and malware before you do the transfer ?

It would really help if you could have the guys in the antivirus forum take a look at a few logs to find out the extent of the infection ?

If you can't clean the old computer . Then backup your new computer first, make sure you are using an up to date version of windows and strong virus / real time spyware protection and as you transfer the data make sure you clean files that have infections. Then check on the net for details on what the infections are and how they effect the operation of the computer.

To do the transfer I would use windows easy transfer as described here:      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2735227

It is not necessary to trash your router because of a virus.
THANKS - I have purchased several "clean your pc" programs, each of which seems to find hundreds of different "issues;"  I only wish to transfer document files, such as those of WORD, etc.,
and other files such as Quicken, etc.; can't imagine there are viruses, etc. attached to these files ?  I will attempt to take up your suggestion about having someone check my logs

can not open Easy Windows Transfer in the Windows 8 search window ( it does auto-fill as I start typing Easy... ) ??Hi

If you just need to do the files you say then a copy to an external hard drive or something similar will be fine. It is unlikely there would be a virus in those files. The problem  is more likely in favorites, browser settings or  emails, downloaded files or programs that have been downloaded.

Would pay to check that your version of Quicken runs on windows 8.

I'm not fond of "clean your PC tools" I would RATHER use specialist tools for each job like for virus's Vipre internet security and spyware Super Anti spyware both have 1 month trials.
