Solve : Shock? |

Answer» When I touch the back of my computer I get a mild shock why? Just started about a day ago.hmmm...lose wire in your machine is causing your machine case to be live? Yes added a printer and a scanner. Also just noticed 3rd prong on extension cord is broken off. About 3yrs old If the third (ground) prong is missing, then your computer isn't grounded properly and this is most likely why you're getting shocked. I've seen this a lot where I live (in Thailand) because building wiring often does not include ground lines. Quite often an ungrounded computer will give you anything from a slight buzz to a stinging shock if you touch metal parts of the case when it isn't grounded properly. Changing your extension cord should stop this problem. Try that first, and if it doesn't help, we'll move on to other things.oh yes, that would explain the shock. neutral wire is bottom left, live wire is bottom right, and earth/ground wire is top. At least that's the case for most 3-pin PLUGS from where i am. if i were you, i'd replace the extension cord. Don't ever use a plug which is either not wired properly, not tightened enough, and definitely not when a prong is broken. Unless you enjoy the stinging sensation of an electric shock that is...I changed extension cord and it stopped shocking me. So that must have been it. THANK You for all your help.Figured that what it would be. Glad that fixed it for you, Judy. |
