Answer» I am currently running on a GeForce FX5500. I need a DX10 card that can run my system. Any tips? I was thinking maybe the 7950GT WOULD be a good option. Are you sure it's a PCI? If so then you're screwed, basically. huh? the FX 5500 is most certainly a PCI. I built my entire system from scratch, the P5B Mobo has one PCIe-X16 slots as well as regular PCI slots. It has no AGP slots. the P5B is a decent mobo. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131030 (right off my shipping invoice) And I know the 7950GT isn't DX10, that's why I'm looking for tips on another one. I want one about that range, but with DX10. -rockQuote But I also doubt that a Core 2 would be running alongside a motherboard with only PCI slots, they need a newer chipset right? I assume you mean PCIe, since AGP is even older than PCI. The P5B has one x16 and one x1.Quote QuoteBut I also doubt that a Core 2 would be running alongside a motherboard with only PCI slots, they need a newer chipset right? Edit: sorry about the double post. After reading the GPU FAQ, it SEEMS that my only option right now would be to spring for the 8 series (not gonna happen). So I wait until hardware manufacturers start putting DX10 on all their cards.OK, I see where you're coming from now. You have PCI-E, but the card is a PCI card. The 8 series is the only DX10 card AVAILABLE now, and the only 8 series card is the 8800. Soon the rest of the 8 series will be out, if I were you I'd wait until then and get an 8600, they will be good performance and fairly cheap from the looks of things. ATI's equivalent series has been delayed, so Nvidia will be your only option for a while yet. Wait a bit, and see what comes up.Mmk, that's kind of what I was thinking, however, I didn't know that there's more to the 8 series. Thanks for your help. -rockif u look at the lower end of the 8800 series it actually is pretty cost effective. im from australia so prices would obviously vary a little but i can get an 8800 320mb gigabyte card for only $465, which is only $120 dearer than a 7950GT 512 card. so if you want the quality in my opinion its definitly worth it. personally ill be purchasing one of these 320mb 8800 cards in teh next few weeks, edit* for these new cards your going to need an absolute minimum 400w power supply, personally im going to be running a 750W but something like a thermaltake 600w would also do the job nicely. http://techreport.com/reviews/2007q1/geforce-8800gts-320mb/index.x?pg=6 this will give u an idea of the power of the 320mb model. it keeps up with the 640mb model very well.I still think that fish get tired of seafood....Quote I still think that fish get tired of seafood.... Your...metaphor (?)... confuses me. What are you talking about? -rock |
