Solve : Short horizontal lines on monitor screen?

Answer»

Hi,

Dell Dimension 4100
Windows Me
Pentium III
128 MB RAM
80 GB hard drive
Opitiquest Q9 flat panel display
ATI RAGE 128 Pro display adapter

About one week ago, I noticed that short horizontal lines started appearing on my Dell M990 monitor screen. When
I moved the cursor around, little white lines appeared as well.

I bought a new Optiquest Q9 flat panel display to replace my old monitor, but the problem persists. When I reboot the computer the problem goes away for a while but then reoccurs. Half the time the problem does not occur at all after a reboot. I think there may be a problem with the ATI Rage 128 Pro display adapter but I'm not sure. Any ADVICE would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!Display adapter problem for sure. Start by trying the latest DRIVERS from the manufacturer's web site. If this does not cure your problem, you may need to replace the CARD.Thanks Rob! I will try updating the drivers and report back here with results.Rob is likely right. One other thing you might try if reinstalling the drivers does not work is to remove and reseat the video card (just do so when the power is off).

8-)Thanks for the suggestion. I seem to already have the lastest update for this driver. I will try reinstalling it and if that does not work I'll go ahead and reseat the video card.Reinstalling the driver seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks to both Rob and pcdoc4christ.Glad you're sorted. Keep us bookmarked! Thanks again Rob! I have your site bookmarked. All the best.
