Why not just configure your computer to automatically GO into hibernation:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/maintain/powermgmt.mspxbtw, turn off hard disk doesn't turn off your computer, it just stops information TRANSFER to and from the hard disk in the time the computer is on, until woken up
